The last 6 weeks

So, the big news is that I finally gave in to the overwhelming odds against finding an out-of-season, low-carbon passage back to Europe before my money runs out, without having any time to put into making that happen. My direct flight to London is booked for 26th October from Halifax, Nova Scotia - the closest place I can fly from. 6 hours and £170 and limited amounts of guilt. Pride & principle swallowed, 'nuff said.

Where will I be between now and then? Here's a very rough itinerary:

Tue 11th - Lansing, Michigan (potluck and discussion at The Fledge)

12-14th - Ann Arbor, Michigan with Fuzzy Konner, coop developer/tech coop person/community organiser

14-17th - Detroit, Michigan with Greg, an urban farmer who 'knows everyone' says Tracy K - and any number of exciting contacts from Brian Donovan

17-19th - Waterloo, Ontario - with WRI student housing coops and Tristan Laing who recently toured UK coops and has a great presentation, which i hope to share with y'all.

19-20th - Toronto, Ontario - who wants to hang out in Toronto?! 21-22nd- Ottawa, Ontario - still possibly with Liam BB, and other Canadian worker coop contacts who will miraculously appear 23rd - Chelsea, Quebec - with Tara Mascarenhas, old school friend and all round fantastically interesting person 24-29th - Montreal, Quebec - with Jim Thomas at the ETC Group, Dru Oja Jay and no doubt a slew of super-inspiring quebecois cooperators and revolutionaries

30th September - 2ndish October - Burlington, Vermont - with Matt Crop and/or GIM the science Robot from social.coop. Possibly also hooking up with Debbie Bookchin, experiencing Vermont town meetings perhaps squeeze in Brattleboro, Vermont, catching up with Andrew Stachiw from TESA

3rd-4th - Greenfield W. Mass - with Annie from Real Pickles 5th-7th or 8th - Amherst/Northampton Mass - return to Uni of Mass and staying with Tim Wallis, old friend and ex-Peace News editor. Meeting with Jack from UMass Amherst student Permaculture garden

Timings thereafter are vaguer:

9th Oct - Worcester, Mass maybe 10th Oct - Providence, Rhode Island maybe 11-14th or 11-15th or 12-16th Oct - Boston, Mass - with Cadwell Turnbull, possibly Micki Metz, Boston Cooperative Investment Club, Ujima project, Jamaica Plain New Economy Transition and multiple others

and then 10 more days making my way up through Maine and Nova Scotia, perhaps meeting the Beehive Collective, Cooperative Fund of New England, anyone from the Greenhorns/Farmhack, maybe some sailcargo related folks, Cooperatives Build a Better Maine, Local Sprouts Cooperative, Ethan from GEO and I think there's really a lot of exciting stuff happening on Nova Scotia that I haven't got round to checking out yet. Phew.
